Bearing repack, brake service and suspension on towables. A technician comes to wherever the rig is parked.
Running gear is the part of a towable that gets ignored until it fails, and it fails at the worst possible moment. Bearings and brakes are wear items on a schedule, not parts that last forever.
If you tow regularly west of Austin on TX‑71, US‑290 or the ranch roads, your suspension and bearings work considerably harder than the mileage suggests. Grade, heat and rough surfaces all compound. Shorten the inspection interval accordingly rather than going by odometer alone.
A hub noticeably hotter than the others after a run, grease slung around the inside of a wheel, a wobble that appears at speed, or braking that has quietly got worse — any of those means stop and inspect, not "make it home first".
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Service call | A flat fee for coming out to you, charged once per visit — whether the job takes ten minutes or three hours |
| Labor | Hourly after that, usually with a one-hour minimum. Diagnosis is often folded into the first hour rather than billed separately |
| Parts | Separate. Either supplied by the technician or by you — ask which, because it changes who warranties the part |
| Extras | After-hours and weekend call-outs cost more. Mileage may apply past a set radius. A return trip to fit an ordered part may mean a second service call |
